What Does 'Well-being' Really Mean?

Nowadays the political and economical system encourages us to believe that our personal fulfillment will be found in our obtaining wealth (becoming rich), but perhaps a deeper interest is in guaranteeing that we will become preoccupied with obtaining material possessions (which also serve as indicators of our "having arrived", that is, reached success). "That is well-being," they say to us; but now we know that it doesn't work that way. So what do you think that 'well-being' really is?
